UPDATE! Cleveland FLEA relocation : 2013.04.13

LOCATION CHANGE!!! We are MOVING INSIDE! We don't want our vendors' precious goods to blow away in the wind and rain so we are moving down the street to the Slovenian National Home located at 6417 St. Clair Avenue. You'll spot the food trucks outside!
Our classes will remain in the Coppertop building located at 6202 St. Clair.
Help us spread the word! See you tomorrow!

"As Many Gains As Losses - Fueling Transformation with the Atlanta Beltline and Other Catalyst Infrastructure"
Join us for AIA Cleveland's 2013 Emerging Practitioner Lecture Series! Our first lecture of 2013 features Ryan Gravel on Friday, April 26 at the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative. Doors open at 5:00 pm, talk begins at 5:30 pm.

Ryan Gravel is a senior urban designer at Perkins+Will (www.perkinswill.com) in Atlanta, where he brings an architect’s perspective to urban planning, concept development and public policy. His master’s thesis in 1999 was the original vision for the ambitious Atlanta BeltLine (www.beltline.org) – a 22-mile transit greenway that transforms a loop of old railroads with transit, parks and trails to generate economic growth and protect quality-of-life in 45 neighborhoods throughout the central city. Six years of his subsequent work as a volunteer and later in the nonprofit and government sectors was critical to the BeltLine’s success, which is now a $2+ billion public-private initiative in the early stages of implementation. In addition to his professional work on the Atlanta BeltLine at Perkins+Will, Ryan is on the Atlanta BeltLine Partnership Board of Directors and speaks internationally about the BeltLine. He was named a “Visionary Bureaucrat” by Streetsblog in 2012 and one of the “Top 25 Newsmakers” of 2011 by Engineering News-Record. He received an “Emerging Voices” citation in 2011 from the AIA-Atlanta Young Architects Forum and was named one of Esquire Magazine’s “Best & Brightest” in 2006.
The Emerging Practitioner Lecture Series is organized by AIA Cleveland's Associates Committee in partnership with Kent State University's Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative. Events are free and open to the public.

#SuperCle : Cleveland celebrates Superman - April 18th

The link

Mayor Jackson has declared April 18th Superman Day (also in honor of Superman's 75th anniversary) playing upon the creation of Superman (April 18th, 1938) when he first appeared on the cover of "Action Comics No. 1" by DC. Superman was created by two residents of the Glenville neighborhood (one of my favorite Cleveland neighborhoods) by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

The city is hoping the denizens of Cleveland will help celebrate by sending in (safe for work) photos of yourself in Superman poses, in costume, etc. They may be sent in via twitter using the hashtag #SuperCle or submissions can be emailed to communications@city.cleveland.oh.us

Some submissions are already up.

Cleveland has it's share of problems, that is true, however there is a resilience to the citizens, who have been through quite a bit and are doing their best to bounce back. I hope that by celebrating our accomplishments we will remember just how much we have.
